Amazing Client Outcomes

The World Congress of the International Geothermal Association 2015

Event Brief

The International Geothermal Association’s global meeting, held every five years, found a home in Melbourne in 2015, with more 93 per cent of the 1600 delegates attending from outside of Australia.

The congress was held from April 19-24 and managed by an organising committee of 32 and a team of 13 on-site Arinex staff.

The majority of meetings and the exhibition were held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), with delegates spread over nearby hotels including the Hilton South Wharf, Travelodge South Bank Melbourne, Pensione Hotel, Great Southern Hotel, and Oaks on Market.

PCO Arinex had to pull out all the stops to ensure that the congress was successful in terms of reaching delegate number targets, content and content delivery, and revenue generation for the client, and did so despite the challenges.

A comprehensive pre-conference marketing strategy resulted in a total of 1603 delegates attend, with a surprising 70 delegates registering on the first two days of the meeting.

Congress sponsorship packages were the most challenging with feedback from companies expected to take up major level sponsorship unable to raise funds for sponsorship and, more concerning, a scaling back of investment in geothermal energy to 2010 levels. Because of this the sponsorship target was revised from $500k to $300k, with the final result just under this figure ($295,506).

The exhibition target set at $569,000 saw 99.36 per cent of budget achieved ($565,360).

The Result

The delegates applauded the technical program content and the social functions which allowed for networking opportunities, and the organising committee and WGC staff were full of praise for the city, the centre, and the PCO.

Graeme Beardsmore from the organising committee said he found “all Arinex staff over the six years we worked together (initially with The Meeting Planners) to be very efficient, responsive and professional.”

“You were integral to the success of the event,” Mr Beardsmore said.

“A marathon.”

“Your team have run the marathon and quietly and very competently completed it over the last week.”
