General Information

Airport and Transport

The central business district of Adelaide is very close to the International and Domestic Airport. The 10 minute ride costs approximately A$20.00 in a taxi and while general bus/coach services are available from the airport, taxi services are less expensive and more frequent. Most international flights arrive via Perth or Sydney. There are frequent direct flights from other state capitals and regional towns. Also available are car hire and campervans. In addition to the local buses in the city, the Adelaide Connector offers a free service connecting major facilities in the North Adelaide and city centre areas. Bus timetables are available from the Visitor Information Centre at the Western end of Rundle Mall.

Eating Out

Various bistros, restaurants, cafes, bars and coffee shops are available within walking distance of the InterContinental.

Parking

InterContinental Adelaide offers car parking facilities and valet parking service.  Valet parking is available for A$26.00 per day.

Places of Interest

National Wine Centre - The showcase for Australia's wine industry and includes a wine-tasting gallery, an interactive exhibit that covers all aspects of winemaking and a working vineyard.

Adelaide Central Market - Well known fresh produce markets, which have been trading since 1869.

Port Adelaide - The old maritime heart of South Australia and its first declared heritage area. It features some of the finest historic buildings in South Australia.

Botanic Gardens - Adelaide's best-loved park. Located right near the Adelaide Zoo. Both not to be missed when visiting Adelaide.

City of Adelaide Golf Links - Wrapping around the west and south of beautiful North Adelaide, these two fully watered courses cater for all levels of golfers. Majestic trees and wonderful views of the city and Adelaide Hills make this one of the most envied public courses in Australia.

Located in the historic Adelaide Railway Station, SKYCITY Adelaide offers an exciting combination of restaurants, bars, live music and gaming facilities.

Rundle Mall - You'll find more than 600 retail stores, three major department stores and 15 arcades there. There are also outdoor cafes and bars to relax in.

Shopping Districts - It’s also worth discovering other shopping districts that Adelaide boasts. These include King William Road, Rundle Street, Unley Road, The Parade at Norwood and Burnside Village.

Art Gallery of South Australia - Founded in 1881, the Gallery is housed in a beautiful historic building, that opened in 1900, on Adelaide’s cultural boulevard, North Terrace. With the growth of the collections the building has expanded considerably since 1900, with major extensions in 1936, 1962 and, most recently, in 1996.

Greenhill Galleries Has been recognised as one of Adelaide's most important commercial art galleries since 1972 when it was established. The galleries deal in fine art by prominent Australian artists, and are leading the way forward with works by emerging talents in a variety of media.

Outside of Adelaide some of the most famous wine regions in the world are dotted across South Australia. From Shiraz in the Barossa, Riesling in the Clare Valley, to the big reds of the Coonawarra, your adventure will be as rich and seamless as the wines.

Glenelg - Located only 10km from the heart of Adelaide City, Glenelg is a charming seaside resort set on the long sandy white shores of Holdfast Bay. Glenelg is the site of South Australia's original mainland settlement in 1836.

Henley Beach -  Henley Beach is a popular beachside suburb of Adelaide, offering white sand, gentle surf, a popular dining square and regular live entertainment in the summer.

Kangaroo Island - When you think of world famous Kangaroo Island, chances are that you picture a secluded island of native forests, teeming with natural wildlife. That's one way of describing Kangaroo Island - but it's a description that hardly does it justice. Only 15 kilometres from the South Australian mainland, the island is seven times larger than Singapore, with a breathtaking diversity of natural environments for you to discover.

South Australian Museum - The South Australian Museum was founded in Adelaide in 1856. It occupies a complex of buildings on North Terrace in the cultural precinct of Adelaide's North Parklands.

Adelaide Zoo - The Adelaide Zoo is now proud to boast the highly anticipated arrival of two Giant Panda’s, Wang Wang and Funi who will now call Adelaide home for a 10 year stay. A cooperative agreement signed between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and Zoos SA, is aimed at securing the long term survival of the species by extending the captive insurance population of the Giant Panda which fits perfectly with the aim of Zoos SA.
